17th Annual Race Against Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk

The Event
Date: Saturday, October 4, 2008(rain or shine)
Time: Check-in 7:30 - 8:30 am. 5K Run/Walk begins at 9:00 am
Location: Washburn University Law School south terrace, 18th & MacVicar, Topeka, KS
Course: 5K (3.1 miles) with splits provided at 1 & 2 mile markers with one water station at the 2 mile mark. You can view a map of the course from this link.
Parking: Free parking is available on the north and south sides of the WU Law School
Scoring: Runners only - results will be scored using microchip technology provided by End Result, Inc of Carmel, Indiana.
Results: Posted after the race using a link on this website page.

Race Rules
Runners are not allowed to push strollers. Walkers may push strollers, but are required to start at the back of the pack. NO ANIMALS are allowed on the course at any time. During the race all participants must wear the race number provided in their packet. PLEASE NOTE: All runners must wear a chip in order to receive their race time. Overall awards will be based on gun time. while the age group awards will be based on chip time. Also, a signed waiver must be received for each participant. This waiver is located on the registration form.
Registration
Cost: Entry fee is $20 on or before September 25; $25 after September 25. Family registration (which covers 3 family members) is $50 on or before September 25; $55 after September 25. Additional persons on a family registration is only $7 for each person early or late registration (ie a family of 5 registered early would be $64).
Pre-registration: Each paid pre-registered participant will receive a 5K run/walk T-shirt. Please print out the form from this link. Complete, sign the form and return with a check for the appropriate amount to the address on the form. Each participant must have a completed form.
Race Day Registration : Participants are encouraged to pre-register. However, no one will be turned away on race day!! You may register on October 4th beginning at 7:30am, but T-shirts cannot be guaranteed.
Breast Cancer Survivor Gifts : The Race Against Breast Cancer will honor all breast cancer survivors participating in the 5K event with a complimentary gift.
T-shirts: All pre-registered participants will receive an official 5K run/walk T-shirt. Unfortunately those who register on race day might not receive a T-shirt due to demand. You may elect not to receive a T-shirt and instead donate the cost of the shirt to the mammography project. Please mark this intention on your registration form. Prior year 5K shirts will be available for sale at the 5K events.
Food & Fun
Our event is well known for the food, fun and excitement. Post-race food is always delicious and plentiful for race participants and their families. Fun activities include music (provided by KMAJ "Majic" 107.7), a fitness warm-up, a pre-race dove release and our pre-race bigger and better balloon launch! This year, the dove release will be in memory of Helen Loewen, a 5K volunteer of 12 years.
Awards
Awards will be given to participants who enter as runners and wear a chip. The top 3 overall male and female runners will receive $100, $75, and $50 respectively. A Master's Award of $75 will also be presented to the top male and female runners 50 years of age and older. Special awards will be presented to the top 3 male and female runners based on the following age groups: 12 & Under / 13-19 / 20-24 / 25-29 / 30-34 / 35-39 / 40-44 / 45-49 / 50-54 / 55-59 / 60-64 / 65 & Over.
Packet Pick-up & Silent Auction Event
Participant packets will be available Friday, October 3, at the south terrace of the Washburn University Law School from 4:30-6:30pm. Join us for a complimentary light supper buffet provided by Clubhouse Inn of Topeka with music provided by KMAJ "Majic" 107.7. You may also register at this time. Our silent auction event will also be held during packet pick-up and registration at the same location.
5K Drawing Items
This year we will again have a quilt offered and we are presently working on a second item. We will update this space as information becomes available. The drawing for these items will occur immediately after our 5K event on Saturday, October 4th. You do not need to be present to win.
